Inspired Change Sustainability Lead Workshop
Westmill Sustainable Energy TrustWestmill Sustainable Energy Trust (WeSET) used the Powering Communities Fund to host their Inspired Change Sustainability Lead Workshop, bringing together primary school teachers for a day packed with practical ideas, lively discussion and collaborative energy.
Project overview
The aim was simple: equip educators with the green skills and confidence they need to inspire the next generation.
By the end of the workshop, teachers left feeling energised and ready to develop sustainability plans for their schools, with many praising the resources as both practical and relevant.
About the project
Building Inspiring Teachers to Lead Sustainability in Schools
The workshop brought together educators from across Oxfordshire and beyond, including Swindon, Newbury and Wantage. More than just a training session, it created a space for teachers to share ideas, support one another and begin building long-term partnerships between schools.
Perhaps the most valuable outcome is the network that’s now forming. Participants are no longer working in isolation; they’re part of a growing community of sustainability leads who can share ideas, challenges and inspiration.
In total, the workshop connected with 120 schools within a 25-mile radius, and WeSET has continued building relationships with them since the event. Schools have received digital and printed resource packs, tailored guidance and even offers of follow-up school visits.
Creativity and New Perspectives
The day featured a range of sessions, but one standout workshop was delivered by Dr Dominic Davies from City St George’s, University of London, who explored sustainability through visual storytelling.
WeSET reported that the creativity and insight shown during the session were exceptional, with many teachers keen to adapt the ideas for their own classrooms.
“Great informative and useful sessions… inspired me to put things into action.”
Creativity and New Perspectives
The goal of the day was to inspire teachers to take ownership of sustainability in their schools, and by all accounts, the workshop delivered.
Teachers left with practical knowledge on topics such as solar energy, integrating sustainability into the curriculum, and accessing useful teaching resources. Every participant reported feeling more confident about creating a sustainability plan for their school.
