Breathing Life into Local Projects with Our Powering Communities Fund

We think there should be more funding to help community energy groups make a real difference with their social and environmental projects

That’s why we’ve put our money where our mouth is—we’ve just announced the winners of our seventh round of the Powering Communities Fund, distributing £80,000 to support 24 groups so far!

Reading Hydro Community Benefit Society

Reading Hydro CBS is using the fund to kick off a new project that shares energy-saving tips and simple ways to cut carbon. Their trained Energy Champions will be out and about supporting vulnerable residents in the area.

North Lincolnshire Community Energy

NLCE is using the grant to boost community engagement with workshops, cafés and sessions on everything from repairs to draught-proofing — plus Home Energy Savings outreach events.

Dorset Community Energy

Dorset CE will be using the funds to give a lift to their Green Martinstown Project, which will see the installation of a 1MW solar site and a community orchard on a village greenfield site.

Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust

WeSET will use the funds to create full-day interactive workshops for local primary school teachers taking on the crucial role of sustainability leads, giving them the tools to become true sustainability champions.

Earlier this year Awel Aman Tawe partnered with Llanmartin Primary School, to take the pupils on an innovative educational journey known as the Dengineers project. This project was inspired by the amazing work at Cardiff University and was proudly sponsored by the Powering Communities Fund.

In December 2023, Aldgate Solar Power (ASP) held its final Creative Energy Club of the year and it was a resounding success! The club used art and creativity to make community energy more fun, engaging and inclusive and the results didn’t disappoint.

In October 2023, the Pant Memorial Hall, with a little help from the Powering Communities Fund, completed its journey to becoming a fully sustainably powered building, by finishing the installation of 28 solar panels across it's roof.
